SocialGuard Security — User Guide

Get up and running in under a minute.

1. Install

From the Hootsuite App Directory, click Install on SocialGuard Security. The app is immediately available in your Compose and Publisher views.

2. Open SocialGuard from a post

1. Click New Post (or open an existing draft) in Hootsuite.
2. In the Compose toolbar, open the Content tab.
3. Click the SocialGuard Security tile.

3. Authorize the scan

The first time you open SocialGuard, you'll see a consent screen listing every Hootsuite endpoint we read and what we never do with the data. No information is fetched until you click I authorize SocialGuard to scan my account. You can revoke this authorization at any time from the settings cog.

4. Read the dashboard

• Exposure Score (0–100): your personal attack surface. Lower is better.
• Profiles reachable: every social account reachable from your Hootsuite session — your own and any shared by your organizations. If your account is compromised, all of them are exposed.
• Platforms: the distinct networks you publish to (each is its own attack surface).
• Scheduled posts: content queued to publish (risky if your account gets compromised).
• Exposure Findings: each metric graded 🟢 / 🟡 / 🟠 / 🔴 with an explanation.
• Security Checklist: best-practice hygiene items to confirm (2FA, unique passwords, OAuth review, least-privilege).

5. Privacy

Read-only. We never post, delete, or modify data. See our privacy policy for the exact endpoints we read.

6. For teams

The free app gives you a personal view of your own account. For an org-wide view — auditing every member, every permission, every connected profile — request our Teams tier from inside the dashboard. Teams is set up via a separate Hootsuite Organization App, linked to your org via Hootsuite's developer support process.
